Dear All,

I was fortunate enough to dine at the restaurant on Friday 22nd April.  The standard of the food was extraordinary, and the performance of live music made the night very special for me and my sons.  I will try to visit you again for a meal, and on a night when Ricky and Jon are playing.  It will take some planning, as you are about 200 miles away from me!

In the meantime, I hope you won't mind that I've mentioned you on my website, with links etc.  It's nothing special, just a personal blog really.  If you are interested to take a look, it is http://tomread.co.uk

The page where I mention my visit to Shahnaz is http://tomread.co.uk/dundry_down_sc-010.htm   (near the bottom of the page).

Kind regards,

Tom

indian restaurants somerset 5 star
We've been staying in a holiday cottage just outside Cheddar this week, and have eaten at Shahnaz twice. On both occasions, my wife, two young children and I were made to feel very welcome in a spacious and spotlessly clean restaurant. We were then fed Indian food that ranks amongst the best examples I've had anywhere in the UK. I travel a lot through work and eat at a lot of Indian restaurants, and this is in my top 5 I've visited for the quality of the food.

The restaurant opens at 5.30 (which is great for us as the children like to eat early) and is worth noting as most of the restaurants around these parts don't get going till 6.15 or later.

On the first occasion we went, the waiter was an older gentleman who was fantastic with the children, making the little chocolate mints appear from behind their ears etc. We felt very welcome. The service on the second occasion was professional but lacked the friendliness of the first chap. Still good though.

On both nights we tried a range of main course dishes (we only ever do poppadums and then go straight to main courses). Dishes sampled included Dhansak, main course chicken tikka, Chicken Rezalla (a delicious curry including curry leaves, fenugreek and loads of black pepper). We also tried a main course veg korma and a couple of side dishes. Everything had bags of flavour and tasted entirely different. I cannot stand it when you go to a curry house and everything has come out of the same pot but with different amounts of chilli powder. Not the case here. Everyt dish had its own character and distinct flavourings.

Prices were pretty standard for a decent Indian restaurant at time of writing - main course chicken dishes were £6-£8, side dishes were £3.25 and breads were all around the £2 mark. Beer and soft drinks were again standard prices. Surprising considering the tourist trap location.

If you are around Cheddar and enjoy Indian food you really should give it a try. If I lived locally, it would become my regular haunt. High praise.

Lovely bright decor the staff are always attentive in anything you ask food was presented in a fab way well recommended if you get the chance and you like indian cuisine then give it a place on your to do list

We have just had a great meal at the Shahnaz, the food was superb. The two dishes we shared were both of top quality. The flavours were delicate and not overpowering as some Indian fare we have tried. All dishes were presented well and we didn't have to wait long. Staff were all polite and very attentive and the restaurant is very impressive with its modern and contempory decor. It is a very impressive venue, just check their website and look at the photos at www.shahnazindiancuisine.co.uk Prices were about average and the menu was as good as you would expect. All in all a very good place to eat and we will certainly dine there again.

Great food, large restaurant but cosy, very friendly staff. Would recommend to anyone

When recently invited by Salim and Hash to join them for a meal at their new restaurant, Shahnaz, we didn't need much persuading because we love Indian food. But what impressed us from the moment we arrived was that the service was second to none. We were greeted at the door and were immediately impressed by the spacious , airy and contemporary feel of the restaurant. In fact I would go so far as to say that you wouldn't be surprised to find this restaurant in any cosmopolitan city, yet here it is conveniently situated in Cheddar.

The restaurant has taken four years to be completed and you can understand why when you study the attention to detail. Beautifully lit and cleverly arranged to provide intimate settings, along side areas suitable for parties and special family occasions. It's amazing to believe that this fabulous restaurant was once a garage.

Salim and Hash have both served the Cheddar community since 1995 in there former restaurant 'The Orchid', They are very much looking forward to seeing customers old and new in their beautiful new restaurant.

The food was reasonably priced and tasted fantastic, and says alot for coming from us, because we love our indian food, we have frequented many an indian restaurant. We were very impressed and came away from the restaurant feeling that we had had a really pleasurable dining experience. So what are you waiting for? If you're planning a special occasion, whether it is a romantic dinner for two, a party for twenty, you definitely will not be disappointed if you visit Shahnaz.

Customers who have dined at the establishment have commented; "Fantastic choice on the menu, wonderful flavours"."Excellent food, friendly, spacious and comfortable"."We always have a good evening here and will continue to return". "Great food, fixed menu is a great idea. Friendly and helpful staff". Read our History
